What have we learnt?
We have improved on how to interpret the ideologies in horror texts and how to express them with a range of key words:
-Residual ideology
-Emergent ideology
-Dominant ideology
-Myth
-Ideologically loaded
-Marginalised
-Patriarchy
-Value Judgement
-Hegemony
-Stereotype
-Binary Opposition
-Ideological Discourse
-Ideological Construction
-Ideologically destabilising
-Culturally marked
We also learnt the importance of storyboarding and how to present movement on a storyboard so that it clear to those who are reading it. We learnt how to use a range of arrows to plan and convey movement:
-Pan/tilt-to achieve this you produce 2 frames to show where the camera shot will start and end, and use arrows to demonstrate the camera movement.
-Track-This means we can convey the camera following a subject. You just draw the subject and dram a large arrow at the side of the frame, the arrow shoes the camera direction.
-Zoom-You must draw an interior frame which indicates where the frame shot begins/ends and an exterior frame. An arrow demonstrates the direction the camera zoom is going to. For example if the arrow points from the interior frame to the exterior frame it is zooming out if the arrow point from the exterior frame to the interior from it is zooming in.
-Reveal-Draw 2 frames and use an arrow to depict smaller movements within the frame, such as a head turning or hand moving.
We also learnt how we can further develop our characters so that we know how to present them in our opening sequence through various techniques. For example we started to design an idea for our protagonist.
How can we move our concept forward?
-We have decided we would like to create our opening based primarily on supernatural/psychological horror genre.
-We think we would like to have a boy as the protagonist who may have a mental illness, such as a hoarder or OCD.
- We are considering our protagonists appearance to be pale, quite thin and wearing dark clothes.
-Also we are considering the idea that he is possessed in some way, or maybe that a supernatural creature is always after him.
-We have decided we definitely want to incorporate our idea that the protagonist has obsessions and that he is creating origami figures and folding paper over and over again as a nervous habit/a way to escape the thought of the supernatural creature.
-We are considering locations and at the moment we would like the location to be in an abandoned space such as a shed or garage. We went this place to be quite isolated.
- We also would like to include a montage section in our opening, using many ECU and CU shots.
