The sub-genre of our horror film is psychological/supernatural because there
is less shots of the antagonist as it’s more inside the mind of the antagonist
controlling their thoughts and actions. Also, the antagonist is a ghost. It starts off slowly by the girl finding
a music box with a crane inside but develops into a whole new aspect where the
girl is completely taken over by these paper cranes and ends up killing
herself. It’s hard to completely understand, and like the film ‘Donnie Darko’
for example the audience have to create their own judgement of the reasons
behind the actions taken throughout the film.
The name in itself implies a sense of mystery and can allow the audience to understand that the main character will at some point become ‘possessed’ by something. We have used our own style to reflect the genre, by having a psychological element of the girl not being able to stop making paper cranes. This also gives a sense of the supernatural as the Japanese use to make paper cranes to trap the spirits inside. We are using a music box as a prop which takes control of the people that open it and listen to the music play, the music starts to be repeated in their dreams, and in their heads controlling them and manipulating their thoughts and feelings.
